Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is an anxiety disorder that may occur after experiencing or
witnessing a life-threatening event such as a car accident, military service, personal assault
or natural disaster.
Symptoms of PTSD are:
- Recurring nightmares
- Persistent fearful thoughts, reliving traumatic event
- Anxiety, irritability, mood swings
- Disturbed sleep
- Hypervigilance - being "on guard" all the time
- Difficulty focusing, returning to normal life
- Exaggerated startle response
Hypnosis treatments can help those suffering from PTSD by assisting in the release of
held energy and emotion "stuck" in the body. It provides a feeling of safety and comfort in your environment
to feel and release emotions around a traumatic event. It can help to "reframe" your
understanding of events, encourage acceptance and release any guilt a person may be
feeling. Hypnotherapy assists by bringing the body/mind back into balance,
provides comfort and relaxation, and useful tools for recovery.
Outcomes include greater relaxation, improved concentration and focus, improved sleep,
greater energy and vitality, acceptance and peace of mind.
Hypnotherapy has long been used to treat war-related post-traumatic conditions. In the last couple of
years it has been also used in cases of sexual assault, car accidents and other traumatic events.
The principle of hypnosis is to induce a deep state of relaxation in patient, which may help cope
with PTSD, causing:
- Feelings of safety and relaxed environment
- Decrease of intrusive thoughts
- Re-involvement in daily activities
